New song that we played at Willimantic Records on Tuesday. Working title is “Gas Huffer.” I kind of intentionally stole one of the lines from a crust punk band.

One Hundred Year Ocean - “You Were A Bonfire Pissed Out In Summer” (Live at Willimantic Records - 4/20/13)

One Hundred Year Ocean (which includes three members of TWIABP) is one of the most promising Connecticut acts right now. Their 2012 EP Poison Smoak is really solid and includes one track that I particularly love called “1576,” which I named my 8th favorite song of last year.

I believe I recall hearing this new song live the last time I saw OHYO, and it sounds great in this video. I hear a lot of Desaparecidos in here, sans the naive political lyrics. I love how subtly it builds and how defeatedly it dies without ever coming to the kind of massive climax that a band like TWIABP would almost predictably reach. Ending a song the way that this one does requires a considerable amount of confidence; this track does not need a breathtaking crescendo to prove its mettle. Frankly, it’s great enough without such unnecessary trappings.

So today at practice we realized that our full length is almost entirely written. It is tentatively titled “A Meaningful Life Spent in Bed.” and should be record by the end of the summer. The song in the video will be on the record.
